SCVT Certification

You must be a certified diver to join the SCVT. We accept certifications from PADI, NAUI, CMAS, YMCA, BSAC and other nationally recognized SCUBA certifying agencies (if your agency is not listed here, you may still be able to join...come to a meeting and find out).

The SCVT offers certification classes for those without certification or for people who have not been diving in the last few years. The schedule for classes is posted on the SCVT bulletin board outside the SCUBA room and they will also be posted here as they become available.

The SCVT, as a non-profit student organization, tries to have the best rates available for our students. At this time, all of our instructors are PADI instructors.

PADI, the Professional Association of Diving Instructors, is internationally recognized and is largest certifier of divers world-wide. PADI certifies over 70% of all divers.

A PADI certification is valid for life and most dive stores in the U.S. are affilated with PADI. In the Carribean, over 85% of all dive stores are PADI.

All classes offered by the SCVT meet PADI standards. In addition, the SCVT standards for student supervision are more rigorous than the PADI standards. The SCVT is very proud of its 32 year safe diving and teaching record and club DiveMasters are assigned for every Open Water class and most advanced and speciality classes.
