Blue Hole Spring-Ichetucknee Springs State Park

Restricted to certified Cave or Cavern divers.
Location
Inside Ichetucknee Springs State Park. From the parking lot, take the
boardwalk on the left 200 yards to the end. Then take a right and it is quite a
hike to the spring. The total walking distance is about 1/2 mile each way. Due
to the long walk down to the spring, many divers do not visit this site, but
the dive is well worth the walk.
Description
The 15' diameter entrance is in 10-15' of water, and drops
straight down to 35' to a sandy bottom. There is a ledge on North side that can
be penetrated about 10'-15'. On the South side there is a cave entrance at 40'.
There is a log outside the cave in open water for attaching a line. Inside the
entrance in the cavern zone is the Blue Room, which is spectacular. The large
room extends back 100' to the cave zone, which is marked by a sign. The Blue
Room has a rocky, gravelly bottom so there is not to much of a problem with
silting. There is noticeable flow coming out of the spring, which also clears
out silt, but makes it a little more difficult to make a safety stop.
