Little River Spring

"One of the best cave dives in all Florida"
Location
From the intersection of Route 27 and Route 129 in Branford go north
on 129 for about 2 miles until you see a sign for "Little River Spring." Take
the left and follow the road until it dead ends at the steps to the spring.
Description
Spring on the Suwanee River with depths in the cavern zone
to 60' and the cave zone to over 100'. From the entrance at 5', the cavern zone
goes down at a 45 degree slope to 60' where there is a turn and the cavern zone
ends. There is flow coming out, so be prepared to fight it on the way in and
out.
You must be Cave or Cavern certified to use this sight!! Always
remember to never dive beyond your level of training. After the
turn into the cave zone there is a warning sign on the right and the permanent
line is on the left wall. The permanent line goes through a narrow corridor
then to a chimney where the depth drops quickly from the mid 60's to 100' where
it levels off. From here, the cave is a mazy tunnel with lots of jumps to other
lines. You will go to a big arrow. To the left is the "Merry-Go-Round Tunnel"
and the "Serpetine Tunnel" to the right. Both tunnels go to the same location,
the beginning of the "Florida Room" where the meet in a smaller arrow.
(Remember, which tunnel you came in from because the tunnels are not the same
distances). The "Florida Room" is a long and enormous room several hundred feet
long and about 100 feet across. Look toward the walls to the see the catacombs.
There is interesting silt layers in some of the phonebooth type crevices. The
"Florida Room" ends at "Christmas Tree Rock" named because that's what it looks
like. This is as far as I've been, but I plan to penetrate farther in the
future.
